Basketball is off to a busy start with 40 students playing basketball and involved in cheerleading!!! It is so much fun to see everyone at our home games encouraging our SAINTS. Our first opponent of the year was Mt Olive Lutheran in Des Moines, our boys winning 35-19, our 6-8 girls bringing in a win of 12-7, and our 4-5 girls battling hard but coming up a bit short. After that initial outing, our boys and girls were asked to play in the Denison Pre-Season Invitational. Our boys were given a bye in the first round, and our girls lost a first round nail-biter against Des Moines 22-25. The boys lost their next two games playing against tough teams from Denison and Des Moines, but the girls came back strong with a win over Boone 26-6. We are also very proud that the girls won the Sportsman Award, which is chosen by the referees.
Moving in to our 3 game home stand, on Tuesday, December 2, our teams took on the Crusaders from Community Christian School. The boys came up just a bit short with a final score of 19-27, the older girls won handily 31-5 (3 quarters), and the younger girls had another close one but lost 5-8 (2 quarters). On Tuesday, December 9, we faced the Vikings from Zion Lutheran in Denison again playing tough in all three games, but coming up short: older girls 18-26, younger girls 10-20, and boys 24-43.
We have two cheerleading squads, Mini Cheer (grades 2-4) and Varsity Cheer (grades 5-8), who have been doing a great job encouraging and motivating both players and fans. Please join in to show Saints Pride when they engage the crowd with their cheers.
